The Shirt Jacket

When it comes to menswear it is often hard to interpret prints easily into your wardrobe without looking like you are trying to hard. I have experimented over the years with lots of items in different prints. Some were successful and others not so much. Recently I picked up this printed shirt jacket from Topman which I have found easy to wear and style.

Topman seem to have bought heavily into this style and trend this season as there are lots of different prints available in the same style. This print stood out to me as although it is quite a bold print the coloring of it is muted. Its also not too much of a “look at me”print either as I don’t really want to wear a print that will attract too much attention. It also has a metallic thread running through it which gives it a more premium feel. Again this is very subtle. The print also reminds me of a vintage tapestry again making the shirt feel a bit more special and considered rather than a run of the mill print.

What I like about this is that it can be dressed up or down and you can wear the shirt more like a jacket rather than a traditional style shirt. Here I’ve layered it over a hoody and worn it with a pink longline t-shirt to pick up the tones of the jacket. This American Apparel hoody is an absolute life save most of the time as it looks great layered under lots of jackets and shirts. A grey hoody has pretty much been in constant rotation in my wardrobe for a long time now. I can’t recommend having one in your wardrobe enough. This outfit is perfect for the beginning of Spring and the shirt is so versatile I think it could be worn through to Summer and Autumn.

I love this print you chose as well, because it’s more preppy than street. Great pick!
